Netanyahu and Modi (archive photo: Yonatan Sindel, Flash90)Israel's Defense Ministry is expanding its defense cooperation with India by promoting the integration of Israeli technology with Indian industry, Ynet reported today (Wednesday). The move comes amid growing calls in the United States to reduce defense aid to Israel and against the backdrop of defense embargoes imposed by several countries during the war.
According to the report, Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram has launched what is described as a long-term strategic initiative aimed at diversifying Israel's defense partnerships. In line with the policy of Defense Minister Israel Katz, the goal is "to spread risk and reduce dependence on actors outside Israel, some of whom turned their backs on Israel at the height of the war, while strengthening ties with strategic partners, foremost among them India."
Israel is seeking to build on its close relationship with the Indian government, which oversees one of the world's fastest-growing economies and shares strategic security interests with Jerusalem.
According to the report, Defense Minister Katz and Baram view the partnership as extending beyond individual arms deals. Instead, the Defense Ministry is working to establish long-term industrial cooperation by combining Israel's advanced defense technologies with India's large-scale manufacturing capabilities.
Under the proposed model, each country would contribute its comparative strengths in areas such as precision-guided missiles, air defense systems, surveillance technologies, and intelligence capabilities.
