(קרדיט: shutterstock)The heat wave sweeping across Israel continues to intensify, and today (Sunday) another slight rise in temperatures is expected, bringing hotter-than-usual weather to most parts of the country. In the mountains and inland areas, dry heat conditions will prevail, while the coastal plain will remain humid. At the same time, heat stress will weigh heavily on most regions, with extreme levels expected in the northern valleys and eastern Israel.
According to the forecast, today will be the hottest day of the week. In several areas, temperatures are expected to reach 104°F and higher, including Ein Gedi, Beit She’an, and Eilat. The rest of the country will also see intense heat, with no sign of meaningful relief in the coming days.
The worsening weather is expected to continue into the start of the week. Tomorrow and Tuesday will still be hotter than usual for the season, with dry heat continuing in the mountains and inland regions, and humid conditions along the coastal plain. A slight drop in temperatures is expected compared to today, but it will not be a significant change.
There is also no real relief expected later in the week. On Wednesday, temperatures will edge up again slightly, and dry heat conditions in the mountains and inland areas will continue alongside humidity on the coastal plain. No noticeable change in the weather is expected on Thursday.
The Meteorological Service says long-range forecasts indicate that the second half of July is expected to be hotter than usual, and on some days significantly so. It also said temperatures are expected to climb another 1 to 2 degrees above current values, after a rise of 3 to 4 degrees was already recorded over the past weekend compared with the days before it.
Against the backdrop of the heavy heat stress, weather experts are calling on the public to take extra precautions. They are warning of moderate to heavy heat stress across most areas of the country, and extreme heat stress in the northern valleys and the east. The public is being asked to limit physical activity during the hottest hours, drink plenty of fluids, and make sure elderly people and young children are not exposed to the intense heat.
Today’s forecast temperatures are: Jerusalem 95-79°F, Tel Aviv 90-82°F, Haifa 88-73°F, Be’er Sheva 102-75°F, Rishon LeZion 95-77°F, Tiberias 106-77°F, and Eilat 111-90°F. Sea conditions will be calm, wave height will range from 16 to 24 inches, and the water temperature will be 82°F.
