The IDF Spokesperson released new footage Monday morning from the delegation’s work, showing its personnel at destruction sites and alongside local authorities in Colombia. According to the statement, the teams are "operating at several major destruction sites in Cali, together with local rescue teams and volunteers from the area, to locate and rescue missing people."
Since the delegation began its work, its teams have reached a significant number of missing people at the destruction sites. The operation is being carried out in cooperation with local authorities, with the goal of assisting Colombian officials and families searching for their loved ones, while concentrating search efforts at sites affected by the earthquake.
Alongside the rescue operation, engineers from the "Brit Re’im" delegation are mapping and classifying damaged buildings. The work is being carried out together with Colombian teams and other international teams operating in the area. As part of the effort, the condition of damaged structures is being assessed to determine which can be returned to use and which require further attention because of the damage they sustained.
The IDF Spokesperson added that, as part of its cooperation with local authorities, the delegation is also providing Colombia with expertise and technological tools designed to help manage the operational picture and the data being collected following the disaster. These tools are used, among other things, to establish priorities and support the decision-making processes of those handling the incident.
This is a combined effort centered on three main areas: locating and rescuing missing people from the destruction sites, assessing the condition of damaged buildings, and helping local authorities manage information and develop an operational picture that will make it possible to prioritize the next stages of the response.
It was further reported that alongside the rescue operation, "the effort to map and classify buildings damaged in the earthquake continues," and that the delegation is making knowledge and resources available to local authorities to help "establish priorities and support decision-making processes."
