Russia Bars El Al From Landing in St. Petersburg

Russia’s aviation authority announced that El Al will not be permitted to open a flight route to St. Petersburg in place of Moscow.

According to the report, El Al wanted to resume its route to Russia and requested permission to open a route to St. Petersburg. The Russians, as noted, refused. N12 News reported that in Israel, officials believe the Russians are retaliating for Israel’s decision to halt flights to Moscow due to the security situation in Russia, and are punishing El Al over Israel’s ban on Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot, from landing at Ben Gurion Airport.

It should be recalled that Israel’s decision regarding Aeroflot is connected to sanctions imposed across Europe and the United States on the Russian airline. On the other hand, Israel permits another Russian airline, Red Wings, to land at Ben Gurion Airport. In this case, it is a private company.
