IDF in Gaza (Oren Cohen/Flash90)Israeli intelligence officials say about two-thirds of the terrorists who infiltrated Israel during the October 7 massacre have been killed, while roughly 2,000 remain alive.
Military Intelligence Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder presented the figures during a Security Cabinet meeting on Sunday night. According to the assessment, approximately 6,000 terrorists crossed into Israel during the Hamas-led attack, of whom about 4,000 have since been killed.
“There are 2,000 remaining, and we will get to every last one of them,” Binder told ministers, according to Israeli media reports.
The updated figures include terrorists killed during the October 7 attack itself as well as those targeted during subsequent fighting in the Gaza Strip. Israel has also captured hundreds of suspected participants in the massacre.
However, security officials warned ministers that Hamas is continuing efforts to rebuild its forces in Gaza.
According to the intelligence assessment, Hamas has been recruiting new operatives and stockpiling weapons while preparing for the possibility of renewed fighting.
Officials said the terror group’s military wing still has tens of thousands of operatives, although many are believed to be significantly less trained and experienced than those who served before the war.
Hamas has also suffered major losses among its senior commanders, creating difficulties in maintaining an experienced command structure. Israeli officials said newly appointed commanders are often less experienced than their predecessors.
In addition, Hamas has reportedly lost much of its previous ability to smuggle weapons through Egypt and has seen its rocket capabilities significantly reduced.
Shin Bet chief David Zini also warned ministers that Hamas may attempt an attack or a localized kidnapping operation around Israel’s upcoming election or shortly afterward.
The IDF has continued targeting individual terrorists identified as participants in the October 7 massacre. Israel has repeatedly said it intends to locate and eliminate those responsible for the attack, regardless of how much time has passed.
