The chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, Gen. Ali Abdollahi Ali-Abadi, issued a statement today (Wednesday) marking Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on the Gaza border communities. According to him, “Operation Al-Aqsa exceeded all expectations, undermined the calculations of the enemies of the resistance front, and created a shock within the structure of the Zionist entity.”

“Oct. 7 shifted the strategy of the resistance front from a defensive approach to an offensive one, aimed at defending the Palestinian people and their land, and, in his words, accelerated the retreat of the occupying and oppressive Zionist entity.”

Ali-Abadi added: “The enemies of the Islamic nation, especially the Zionists, must understand that the heroic acts of the martyrs of the resistance front, especially soldier Qassem Soleimani, Ayatollah Hassan Nasrallah, Ismail Haniyeh, and Yahya al-Sinwar, will continue and bring about the end of the occupying Israeli entity. Thanks to God, the directives and actions of the leader of the nation, soldier Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, will continue to defend the sacred cause of Palestine and the resistance front until the liberation of holy Jerusalem.”

This statement follows a post written earlier by the Iranian military’s spokesperson: “If necessary, in the future we will carry out preventive actions to deter the enemy from any harm or violation.”

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Hezbollah received $200 million from Iran “to assist Lebanese people displaced from their homes in the war against Israel.” According to the report, this is the first significant aid Iran has transferred to its supporters since it entered the war on March 2. The money reached Lebanon despite the U.S. economic blockade, and intermediaries charged a 20% commission, four times the usual rate, because of the risk.

The report noted that “the funds are intended to finance an initial grant of $3,000 for each of approximately 50,000 families, with priority given to residents of villages that were destroyed or are inaccessible because of Israeli control.”
