What Blessings Are Said on Motzei Yom Tov?

AA

Question

Dear Rabbi, on Motzei Yom Tov, what blessings are recited?

Thank you very much.

Answer

Greetings,

For the Havdalah on Motzei Yom Tov, we do not recite the blessings over the spices or the candle; rather, we only recite the blessing of Borei Pri Hagafen over the wine, and then we say the blessing that distinguishes between Kodesh and Chol, followed by drinking the wine (Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 299:1 and Mishnah Berurah 1).

We do not recite the verses "Hinei El Yeshuati," etc.; instead, we start immediately with the blessing of Borei Pri Hagafen (although the Pri Megadim holds in Mishbetsot Zahav 1 that these verses should be recited. However, the Mateh Ephraim in 299:10 writes that we do not recite them, and this is the custom).

Blessings,

Hillel Meirs
