Halachot and Customs

Is it permitted to marry a niece?

AA

Question

A question in Tractate Yevamot. Is it permissible for a Jew to marry the daughter of his sister or the daughter of his father? And will the offspring be considered a mamzer?

Answer

Hello and blessings

It is permitted to marry the daughter of his sister, and it is even a mitzvah. It is important to check for any genetic issues, of course.

As for marrying the daughter of his father, that is a prohibition punishable by karet, and the offspring would be a mamzer.
