Reciting Shema After Reading

AA

Question

Shalom and blessings. I wanted to ask, I know that one should recite the Shema close to sleep, but at night I am using the phone to watch lectures and I fall asleep. The question is whether to recite it before I start watching the lectures, but that will not be close to sleep at all because it can take an hour or two....

Answer

Shalom and blessings

You can recite the Shema before you begin watching the lectures, and afterwards, it is preferable if you can recite it again very close to sleep, specifically the first paragraph of the Shema from "Shema Yisrael" until "U'v'sh'arecha".
