Is It Permissible to Make Kiddush on Sweet Challah?

AA

Question

We have the custom to make Kiddush on 2 small regular challahs, but we eat from only the sweet challah, and most of the challahs remain and are thrown away. 1. Is it permissible to make Kiddush only on a whole sweet challah? 2. What is the amount that one needs to eat from it to fulfill the obligation of Kiddush if it is allowed, and to recite the Birkat Hamazon? Thank you in advance

Answer

Greetings

For Ashkenazim, there is no issue in reciting a blessing on sweet challah.

Sephardim need to eat about 250 grams in order to be able to recite the blessing on sweet challah that is Hamotzi.

Best regards,
