Is the Blessing for Sitting in the Sukkah Recited Before or After Hamotzi?
Question
Should the blessing "to sit in the sukkah" be recited before or after the blessing of Hamotzi? Thank you very much
Answer
Festivals of Joy,
The Ashkenazi custom is to recite the blessing for sitting in the sukkah after the blessing of Hamotzi (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 639:3, and Mishnah Berurah 639:7. However, regarding the kiddush of Friday night and Yom Tov, one recites the blessing for sitting in the sukkah after kiddush and before drinking the cup as the Rema writes there), while the Sephardi custom is to recite the blessing for sitting in the sukkah before the blessing of Hamotzi (see Hazon Ovadia, Sukkot, pages 189-191).
With blessings,
