Wearing White on Yom Kippur

AA

Question

Dear Rabbi, greetings and blessings. Is there a significance to wearing white on Yom Kippur? Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

There is indeed a significance to wearing clean white garments on Yom Kippur, as the Rema wrote in Orach Chaim (Siman 575, Seif 4) that it is customary to wear clean white clothing on Yom Kippur, akin to the ministering angels. The Mishna Berura (S"k 16) noted that it is customary for women as well to wear clean white garments in honor of the day.

Gmar hatima tovah,

Hillel Meirs
