A Dream of a Ceiling Falling on Me, What Does It Mean?

AA

Question

A few nights ago, I dreamed that the house I grew up in during my childhood (I currently live in another house) was being destroyed, the ceiling was falling, and the house was collapsing on us. I immediately woke up and saw that it was 5:15 AM. About a month and a half ago, I had a similar dream, in which the ceiling also collapsed and the house burned down. Can you interpret what this dream means? Thank you in advance, Rotem the Frightened

Answer

Hello,

Thus said the sages in the Midrash (Bereishit Rabbah Parsha 87) on the verse, "And we will tell him our dreams, etc., and it happened as he interpreted for us." "A woman came to Rabbi Eliezer and said to him, `I saw in my dream that the ceiling of my house falls and the house collapses.' He said to her: `The interpretation is that you will soon conceive and give birth to a son' [the interpretation is similar to the dream because at the time of birth, the fetus falls from its home – the womb, and everything inside it, the encasement that surrounded the fetus internally, is destroyed]. She went home, and indeed that happened. After some time, she again came to Rabbi Eliezer and said that she had dreamed the same dream that the ceiling was falling and the house was collapsing. He replied to her similarly that she would conceive again of a son and give birth joyfully, and that indeed happened. After some time, she saw this dream for the third time and came again to Rabbi Eliezer,

However, he was not home at that time, so she asked his students who were sitting there to interpret the dream she saw that the house was collapsing and the ceiling was falling. The students replied to her that apparently soon her husband would die and she would bury him, and indeed this occurred, heaven forbid. When the event happened and the husband passed away, Rabbi Eliezer heard her crying and asked her what happened, and she told him the interpretation of the dream that the students had given her. Rabbi Eliezer said to his students: `You have killed a man,' as it is written, `And it happened as he interpreted for us.' I will certainly interpret your dream based on what Rabbi Eliezer taught, that the dream foretells that you will conceive with a son and give birth at a good time. If you are not of childbearing age, this dream serves as a tidings of bright grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Torah, mitzvot, and fear of Heaven.

Nevertheless, I suggest you go to the synagogue and at the time when the priests bless with the priestly blessing, say this prayer:

"Master of the Universe, I am Yours, and my dreams are Yours. I dreamed a dream and do not know what it is. May it be Your will before You, Hashem my God and God of my fathers, that all my dreams be for good for me and for all Israel, whether I dreamed about myself or whether I dreamed about others, and whether others dreamed about me, if they are good, strengthen and make them firm, and may they be fulfilled in me and in them like the dreams of Joseph the Righteous, and if they need healing, heal them like Hezekiah the King of Judah from his illness, and like Miriam the Prophetess from her Tzara'at, and like Naaman from his Tzara'at, and like the waters of Mara by the hands of our teacher Moshe, and like the waters of Jericho by the hands of Elisha. Just as You turned Balaam the wicked's curse into a blessing, so too turn all my dreams for me and for all Israel for good and safeguard me and have mercy on me and grant me acceptance. Amen:
