What Prayers Should Be Said When Visiting a Grave?
Question
What prayer should one say when visiting a grave?
Answer
It is customary to recite special Psalms printed at the end of most editions of Tehillim, titled: Psalms to Say at Graves.
It is also customary to recite the letters of the deceased’s name together with the name of their father, based on Psalm 119, which is arranged according to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. After completing the verses beginning with the letters of the deceased’s name, one says these letters: נ.ש.מ.ה. and concludes with the recitation of Kaddish and the prayer "El Maleh Rachamim."
