Can a person who desecrates Shabbat open a bottle of wine for me?
Question
Hello and blessings,
I would like to know if a person who does not observe Shabbat may open a bottle of wine for me. I heard there is an issue with this and would appreciate a clear answer.
Thank you very much.
Answer
Greetings, A person who desecrates Shabbat may not pour wine for you, as doing so renders the wine considered "yayin nesekh" (wine forbidden due to idolatrous associations). However, if the person does not desecrate Shabbat publicly or if he is a minor who is not accountable (tinok sh'nishba), it is permitted. Additionally, if the wine is cooked or pasteurized, it is permitted.
Sincerely, Hillel Meirs
