What is the meaning of a dream about an accident?
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I had a dream last night that I was driving a car and slowly started to lose control of the steering wheel and had an accident; somehow I came out unscathed and went with my mother to a dealership, where I was very frightened and they told me that everything would be alright and that they wouldn't take my license and it would just be a warning.
I wanted to know what it means to dream about an accident.
Thank you very much in advance!
Answer
Hello,
It is very likely that the dream holds no significant meaning, like most dreams in our times.
However, if the dream still troubles you, it is advisable to recite 'the good dream' (the wording appears in prayer books) before three people, preferably those who have your best interests at heart.
Alternatively, you may attend the Shacharit morning prayer and say at the time of the 'Birkat Kohanim' the following text (and try to finish reciting the text when the Kohanim finish saying 'Shalom', so that the congregation's response of Amen coincides with your prayer):
Master of the universe, I am Yours and my dreams are Yours, I dreamed a dream and do not know what it means. May it be Your will, Hashem my God and God of my ancestors, that all my dreams be for good for me and for all Israel, whether I dreamed about myself or about others, and whether others dreamed about me. If they are good, strengthen and support them, and may they be realized in me and in them like the dreams of Yosef the righteous, and if healing is needed, may they be healed like Chizkiyahu, king of Judah, from his illness, and like Miriam the prophetess from her leprosy, and like Naaman from his leprosy, and like the waters of Mara through our teacher Moshe. And just as You turned Bilaam the wicked’s curse into a blessing, so may You turn all my dreams for me and for all Israel for good, and keep me, grant me mercy and accept me. Amen.
By the grace of Hashem, no harm shall befall you.
Wishing you well,
Hillel Meirs
