Question

Hello, is it permissible to throw away a page on which "B'S'D" is written? Thank you very much.

Answer

Dear Sir or Madam, A page on which the word "B'S'D" is written does not require genizah (sacred burial), and it is permissible to throw it away in the trash as usual.

Sources: This is written in Shut Igrot Moshe, Yoreh De'ah Part II (end of Siman 138), that the word "B'S'D" does not require genizah. Likewise, see the book Ganzi HaKodesh (Chapter 7, Note 9), quoting Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, shlita, who said there is no need to be stringent and put "B'S'D" in genizah. He added that this is precisely why people are careful to write "B'S'D" so there will be no concern of disrespecting Hashem's name. This is also explained in Shut Teshuvot VeHanhagot Part I (Siman 696) and Shut Nachalat Pinchas Part I (Siman 1, paragrapgh 106).

Blessings, Hillel Meirs
