Washing Hands Over Dishes in the Sink or Inside the Bathroom?

AA

Question

Hello, Regarding the washing of hands in the morning and washing hands after using the bathroom, am I allowed to wash my hands over dirty dishes in the kitchen? And what is preferable in such a case, to wash hands in the bathroom (which contains a shower and a sink) or over dishes? Thank you.

Answer

Greetings, It is permitted to wash hands in the morning and also after using the bathroom in the kitchen sink, even though there are dishes present, since those dishes are washed afterward (Halichos Shlomo, Part 1, Chapter 20, Halacha 11). This is preferable to washing hands in the bathroom, where washing is only allowed in a pressing situation (see Shu’t Yechaveh Da’at, Part 3, Siman 1).

Blessings, Hillel Meirs
