Is there a remedy for those who wish to wake up at a certain time?
Question
Shalom and blessings,
I was told that there is a verse to recite seven times before going to sleep in order to wake up at the desired time.
I would appreciate knowing what the verse is if there is one.
Thank you very much.
Answer
Good week,
Rabbi Chaim Palagi, of blessed memory, wrote in his book Refuah V’Chaim (Chapter 12, Section 108) that anyone who wishes to wake up at a certain time during the night should say the verse (Psalms 57:9) "Awake, my glory; awake, O harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn" "עוּרָה כְבוֹדִי, עוּרָה הַנֵּבֶל וְכִנּוֹר, אָעִירָה שָּׁחַר" seven times, forward and backward. Each time, they should keep in mind the specific time they wish to wake up. Afterwards, they should say (Proverbs 6:22) "When you walk, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will guard you; and when you awake, they will speak to you" "בְּהִתְהַלֶּכְךָ תַּנְחֶה אֹתָךְ, בְּשָׁכְבְּךָ תִּשְׁמֹר עָלֶיךָ, וַהֲקִיצוֹתָ הִיא תְשִׂיחֶךָ" seven times, both forward and backward.
Additionally, Rabbi Shmuel Hominer, of blessed memory, wrote in his book Alat Tamid (Chapter 35, Page 66) that when one says (in the Kriat Shema at bedtime) "Redeem me..." 'פדית אותי וכו' they should intend for the time they wish to wake up and direct that Hashem should redeem them and return their soul to them at that hour, and they will awaken at that exact moment with the help of Hashem.
With blessings,
