Is it permissible for a woman in Niddah to enter a Cemetery or Kever Tzadik?

AA

Question

Is there a prohibition for a woman or girl to enter a cemetery or the graves of the righteous while in Niddah?

Thank you very much!!!

Answer

Greetings,

1. Based on the fundamental law, it is permitted for a woman to visit graves while she is on her menstrual cycle, although there is a consideration to avoid it (see Taharat HaBayit, Vol. 2, Siman 12, Se'if 44).

The consideration to avoid visiting applies even when the grave is isolated (such as the grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai) and not located within a cemetery (as stated in the response of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, Shlit"a, cited in the book Da'at Notzah, Vol. 1, p. 140).

2. Those who are accustomed to be stringent not to visit the cemetery do so specifically during their menstrual cycle, but during the days of counting seven clean days, it is permissible (Taharat HaBayit, ibid).

Best regards,

Hillel Meirs
