Is going to the bathroom considered an interruption in the middle of eating?

AA

Question

Hello, honored rabbi.

If a person recited the first blessing over fruit and then went to the bathroom, is that considered an interruption, requiring him to recite the concluding blessing and then the first blessing again? Is there a difference between mezonot and other fruit, and the like? I am asking according to the view of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory.

Thank you very much.

Answer

Hello,

One does not return and recite a blessing over the food, and there is no difference between types of food.

Sources: It is true that Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, was of the opinion in his book Halichot Olam, Volume 2 (page 44), that one who is eating food or drinking a beverage whose concluding blessing is Borei Nefashot Rabbot, and in the middle of eating or drinking goes to attend to his needs, since the place he entered is not fit for eating, he must return and recite the blessing over enjoyment even when he returns to his original place. See there. However, his son, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, may he live long, brought in his book Ein Yitzchak, Volume 2 (page 606) that his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, retracted this halacha, and his final view is that one does not return and recite a blessing.

With blessing, Hillel Meirs
