Will a person who sinned with a gentile woman be bound to her like a dog in the World to Come?

AA

Question

Is it true that if a person was with a gentile woman, she is with him like a dog and will not leave him in the world above? If so, why do teshuva? After all, she will not leave him anyway.

Thank you very much

Answer

Greetings,

It is true that it is written in Tractate Sotah (3b) that one who commits a transgression with a gentile woman, and likewise one who transgresses any other sin, is bound to her like a dog. This is derived from what is written regarding Yosef the righteous and Potiphar’s wife (Bereishit 39:10), "he did not listen to her to lie beside her, to be with her" — to lie beside her in this world, to be with her in the World to Come. See there. However, this applies to a person who did not repent, but one who has done teshuva, certainly that gentile woman will not be bound to him like a dog in the World to Come.

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
