What Blessing Do We Say on Sushi?

AA

Question

Hello and greetings!

I wanted to ask what blessing we say on sushi?

Thank you very much

Answer

Greetings,

If most of the sushi is made with rice, we say the blessing "Mezonot" (grain products). If most of it consists of vegetables, we say the blessing "Ha'adamah" (fruits of the ground). If there is no majority, for example when the rice is forty percent, the vegetables thirty percent, and the fish thirty percent, we need to separate each type and say the blessing on each one individually, because even though the rice is in larger quantity than the vegetables or the fish, each one must be evaluated separately, and in order to establish the law of the blessing, there must be a majority compared to the entire dish, so that the name of the dish is called after that type.
