Forgot to Mention Ya'aleh Veyavo in the Evening Service of Rosh Chodesh

AA

Question

In the evening of Shabbat I prayed Arvit and forgot to mention Ya'aleh Veyavo, and only during the meal did they speak about Rosh Chodesh and I remembered. How should I have acted?

Thank you

Answer

Shalom,

One who forgot to say Ya'aleh Veyavo in the Arvit prayer of Rosh Chodesh does not repeat the prayer, and there is no difference whether Rosh Chodesh is one day or two days, because we do not sanctify the month at night (Shulchan Aruch, Siman 192, Seif 1).

Only if you remembered before you said the Name of Hashem in the blessing of Hamachzir Shechinato L'Tzion, you would have needed to go back and say Ya'aleh Veyavo (see Shulchan Aruch there, Siman 195, Seif 4, and Mishnah Berurah, Sif Katan 7, and Siman 192, Sif Katan 2).

Best regards,
Hillel Meirs
