Three Pennies for Tzedakah

AA

Question

Does halacha say that one should put thirty agorot in tzedakah for every person every day, and does one need to say the person’s name and his mother’s name when giving the tzedakah?

Answer

Greetings and blessings,

There is no such obligation. Rather, some have the custom to give three pennies to tzedakah during the recitation of Vayevarech David, and since a 10-agorot coin has a value of more than a peruta, some have the custom to give thirty agorot to tzedakah.

There is no need to mention a name.

With blessings,

Binyamin Shmueli
