Laws of the Year of Mourning

AA

Question

My husband’s father passed away.
Regarding going out for any kind of entertainment:
1. Is it permitted to go to a theater performance during the year of mourning?
2. Is it permitted to go to a stand-up show during the year of mourning?
3. Is it permitted to go to the movies during the year of mourning?
4. Is it permitted to go to the pool?

Is there any difference in all these questions between the 30-day period after the death and the time after that?

Answer

Hello and blessings

1. It is permitted without music. Of course, only to a modest performance and without issues of modesty.

2. One should not go to an entertainment show.

3. The same as in the previous sections.

4. There is no problem at all.

With blessings,

Benjamin Shmueli
