Is lighting a candle for a tzaddik only done on the day of his yahrzeit?

AA

Question

Is it correct that it is not recommended to light a candle for a tzaddik on an ordinary day, on a day that is not the date of his yahrzeit, and that it is only on the yahrzeit that one may light a candle and ask him to pray?

Answer

Shalom u-vrachah

It is possible to light candles for the elevation of the souls of the tzaddikim at any time and on any day; it has a greater effect and influence on the anniversary of the day. Those special souls of tzaddikim who maintain a connection with this world, and for the elevation of the souls of these tzaddikim, it is proper to light candles and to ask Hashem that in the merit of the tzaddik, Hashem will accept the prayer.
