Is It Permitted to Marry a Karaite?

AA

Question

According to the opinion of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, is it permitted for a Jew to marry a Karaite woman? Thank you in advance

Answer

Hello,

According to the opinion of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, it is permitted to marry a Karaite woman, after she accepts upon herself the obligations of a committed Jew, meaning that she accepts observance of the mitzvot and complete faith in the words of the Sages. It is also right to send her first to a God-fearing Torah scholar to learn the basic halachot of the foundations of Judaism, such as Shabbat and the Jewish festivals, especially Passover and Yom Kippur, as well as the laws of kashrut and family purity, as he explained at length in his work Yabia Omer, volume 8 (Even HaEzer, siman 12).

With blessing, Hillel Meirs
