Completing Pesukei DeZimra After the Amidah

AA

Question

Hello, honored rabbi,
I am careful to pray Shacharit every morning, but because I work early in the morning I do not manage to pray the entire service and usually say only Shema Yisrael and the Amidah.
I would like afterward to make up the prayers (or say them on the way to work in the morning). May I make up the prayers, from Baruch Sheamar through the blessing of Yotzer Or, without concluding the blessing with Hashem’s Name?
And if so, may I say Hashem’s Name that appears in the middle of the blessing?
Thank you very much!!

Answer

Greetings,

You may not recite the blessings of Baruch Sheamar and Yishtabach after the Amidah, because they were instituted to be said only before prayer, and the Name of Hashem that appears in the middle of the blessings should also not be said. However, you may say all of Pesukei DeZimra with Hashem’s Name.

Sources: See Shulchan Aruch (siman 52) and Mishnah Berurah (seif katan 8). It should be noted that according to Rav Ovadia Yosef zt"l, Sephardic girls may not recite Baruch Sheamar and Yishtabach with Hashem’s Name and Kingship even when they are said in the proper order of prayer (Yabia Omer, vol. 8, Orach Chaim, siman 8).

With blessing,

Hillel Meirs
