Showering During the Nine Days

AA

Question

What are the prohibitions and allowances for showering during the Nine Days? What about for Shabbat? Is soap permitted? Can I change socks? Additionally, could you please include a lecture on honoring parents on your website? Thank you!

Answer

Hello,

For Sephardim: There is no issue with cold water; hot water is prohibited.

For Ashkenazim: Showering with cold water is also prohibited, so the solution is to wash one’s feet in cold water in the morning and only the body and hands in the evening.

And thus, one can take care of each limb accordingly. Soap is prohibited unless it is due to sweat and one cannot be in the company of others; then it is permissible as needed. It is prohibited to change socks.
