The Promise of the Pele Yoetz
Question
What did the Pele Yoetz promise to anyone who would study his books?
Answer
Peace and blessing.
This is how he writes in his book Orot Elim, in tractate Shekalim, folio 4b: And you, my children, and all my descendants after me: honor me in this by studying it well, especially the words of rebuke, good conduct, and the injunctions that I command you. Make an effort to expound them publicly and have Kaddish said over them. Perhaps I may be built up through some person who will take my words to heart, and they will be for me a source of comfort ... And if I merit to behold the pleasantness of Hashem and visit His palace, I will make an effort to repay with the best from anyone whom I receive benefit, and to seek mercy for him. My children and my people, listen to me, and your soul shall live.
