Circumcision for a Baby Born on Friday Near Sunset

AA

Question

Hello to the Hidabroot staff, I gave birth to a son, thank G-d, on Friday two days ago at 7:40 p.m. Shabbat here in Ashkelon began at 7:26 p.m., and sunset was at 7:48 p.m. When should we perform the brit?

Thank you very much

Answer

Hello,

Since the baby was born before sunset, the circumcision should be performed on Friday.

Sources: See Beit Yosef, Yoreh Deah (end of siman רסב), Shulchan Aruch (there, seif 7), and the book Minchat Cohen (Mavo HaShemesh, maamar 2, chapter 1). Also see Chazon Ovadia, Shabbat, part 1 (page קפז, d.h. va-agav).

With blessings of mazal tov and much delight,

Hillel Meirs
