What is the replacement prayer if one was forced not to pray Mincha of Shabbat?

AA

Question

Hello, Rabbi.

I went to sleep on Shabbat afternoon and, unfortunately, through no fault of my own, I woke up on Motzaei Shabbat and missed the Mincha prayer. How do I make up the prayer? Should I pray weekday Ma'ariv twice, or the Shabbat prayer?

Thank you very much.

Answer

Hello,

You should pray weekday Ma'ariv twice, and insert Havdalah only in the first Amidah and not in the second Amidah (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 108:10). The first Amidah should be prayed for the sake of Ma'ariv, and the second Amidah for the sake of making up the Mincha of Shabbat (Shulchan Aruch there, section 1).

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
