Is Certification Needed for Tea?
Question
Hello, someone in the family bought a box of tea bags imported from abroad that has no certification. Does tea need certification? If so, I would appreciate an explanation as to why. Thank you and keep up the good work.

According to the opinion of kashrut experts, regular tea (meaning green or black) as well as Earl Grey tea does not require certification according to the law.
Mint tea, fruit tea, chamomile, and all types of tea that contain only natural flavors do not require certification when they are produced abroad. However, if they contain flavor additives or are produced in the Land of Israel, they do need certification.
