After-Blessing for Tea and Coffee
Question
A person who drank tea or coffee: does he recite an after-blessing, according to the view of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt"l?
Thank you,
May you be blessed to perform mitzvot
Answer
Greetings,
One does not recite an after-blessing after drinking tea or coffee, since one does not drink a reviit within the time span of "kedei shetiyat reviit" (4-5 seconds).
Sources: See at length in Yabia Omer, volume 5 (Orach Chaim, siman 18). See also in his work Halichot Olam, volume 2 (page 127), that even if one set the coffee aside until it cooled somewhat and drank a reviit at once, one does not recite any after-blessing at all, since people do not normally drink coffee all at once when it is cold, and one who drinks it in this manner is acting against the practice of all people. Nevertheless, one who recites an after-blessing on coffee in such a case has upon whom to rely. But regarding tea, if one sets it aside until it cools somewhat and drinks a reviit at once, one should recite the after-blessing "Borei Nefashot Rabot." See there.
With blessings,
Hillel Meirs
