Is it Permissible for a Mourner to Cut Their Nails?

AA

Question

Is it allowed to cut nails during the thirty days of mourning (for parents)?

Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

A mourner is forbidden from cutting their nails with any tool during the thirty days of mourning. However, they are permitted to use their hands or teeth to trim their nails, even within the seven days of mourning (Shulkhan Arukh Yoreh De'ah 390:7; see also Hazon Ovadia on Mourning, Vol. 2, pages 270-272).

Best wishes,

Hillel Meirs
