Is there a source for examining the evil eye with oil and water?
Question
There are those who say that there is a possibility to check for the evil eye with oil and water.
Drip drops of oil onto the water and wait a minute or two, and if the oil sinks, there is an evil eye (the number of eyes corresponds to the number of bubbles that sank to the bottom).
- Is there a source for this?
- Is it permissible to do this? Or does it border on idolatry?

As far as it is known, there is no source for this, and therefore one who wishes to guard their soul should stay away from such practices whose foundations are uncertain.
