Ask the Rabbi - General
What is the oldest religion?
Question
I would like to know what preceded what - Judaism or Hinduism (the predominant religion in India). When I refer to Judaism, I consider its beginning to be at the time of the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. Once, a religious young man told me something regarding "Eastern beliefs" that they predate the Torah. However, I found no mention of this. If you could direct me to a source of information.

Hello and blessings,
The Torah introduced monotheism to the world and presented the first religious instruction manual for the world.
Hinduism is not an organized religion, and many see it as a "way of life," rather than a religion.
The Indian religions were not organized, and their sacred texts are merely hymns and poems, referred to as the "Vedas" (Wikipedia on the entry for Vedas: "There are no holy places, written texts, ritual objects, or even a need for structures"). They do not contain historical narratives, but rather folk tales about legends depicting wars and intrigues among the deities.
Our forefather Abraham was engaged in battling such idolatrous beliefs, which believed in physical, passionate gods.
Please search Google for the pamphlet ""שיחה גורלית" (Critical Conversation.) I believe it will add clarity to your interest in meaning and religions.
