When and How to Recite the Morning Blessings?

AA

Question

Greetings, I have a few questions:

a. Am I required to be dressed modestly in order to recite the blessings? Even if it is in the morning while I am in bed?

b. Do I need to go to the restroom before I begin the morning blessings? Since I need to recite the blessing Asher Yatzar. So, practically, I need to wait until I have the urge to relieve myself.

c. Am I allowed to speak during the recitation of the morning blessings? Because often, my child interrupts me.

d. How much time can elapse between the blessing Asher Yatzar and Elokai Neshamah

e. If my child, who is one year and four months old, responds to me, is that acceptable?

f. If I ate or drank before the blessing Elokai Neshamah, is that valid? Or is it preferable not to recite it? Or is it permissible to eat or drink between them?

Best, Sarah

Answer

Greetings and blessings

a. It is not necessary to be dressed modestly.

b. Correct. If you do not have the urge to relieve yourself, you can recite all the blessings except for the blessing Asher Yatzar, which you will recite afterward.

c. You may pause between blessings.

d. It is preferable to recite immediately, but in urgent situations, it is permissible to wait a little, and as soon as you are able, you should recite the blessing Elokai Neshamah.

e. What do you mean?

f. Eating and drinking do not prevent you from reciting the morning blessings, including the blessing Elokai Neshamah. If you are hungry or thirsty, you are allowed to eat before the morning blessings.

Best regards,

Binyamin Shmueli
