Eating Abroad

Question

I will be abroad for a few days and I have a question regarding food there. My question is what is permitted to eat without needing kosher certification? For example, I was told that it is permissible to eat vegetables, bread, and specifically to drink Coca-Cola (I am not sure how accurate this is). Thank you very much and may it be for good.

Answer

Greetings

It is permissible to eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

Bread may not be eaten; if kosher bread cannot be obtained in this city, there is room to be lenient in a time of need to purchase regular bread from a non-Jewish bakery. One should check if it contains animal fat.

It is permissible to drink beer, Coca-Cola, soda, and Sprite.

It is permissible to buy canned tuna or whole kosher fish and clean it oneself.

Many breakfast cereals are permitted.

Non-Jewish milk should not be consumed.

Raw rice is permissible.

Regular pasta is allowed.

Canned vegetables.

Natural juices are permitted, but grape juice or any mixture containing grape juice is prohibited.
