Is it permitted to buy new clothes during the Three Weeks?
Question
Are women allowed to buy clothing for weekdays (a shirt/skirt) during the Three Weeks— and wear it during this time, not during the Nine Days?

It is permitted to buy new clothes until Rosh Chodesh Av (see Shulchan Aruch Orach Chayim 559:7). However, for expensive clothing on which one usually recites the *shehechiyanu* blessing, it is advisable to refrain from purchasing from the Seventeenth of Tammuz (according to Shulchan Aruch there 559:17), and it is proper to be stringent regarding this until after the Tenth of Av (the Chida zt”l in his book *Machzik Beracha* 559:63, and in *Responsa Yosef Ometz* 56. He also ruled in the book *Chazon Ovadia* on the Four Fast days, page 188).
