An additional questin i was asked following Harav Zamir Cohen’s visit in Baltimore
I was asked an additional question here in Baltimore following Harav Zamir Cohen's visit to our community, and would appreciate if you can answer. There are a few concepts in the Torah that i simply do not understand. The Torah commands us to behave with such care towards animals - to releeve it of a heavy load, to be carefull not to cause it any pain and even to save it if it is in trouble. How then is it possible that this same Torah commands us to do things such as throwing a goat off a cliff " la'azazel," or performing a Brit Millah, which is a painful procedure which is not done under anesthesia, on a tiny baby? I understand that we humans are the crown of creation, but why must thses actions be done with such cruelty?
