Mossad chief Roman Gofman informed his deputy, A., that his term is ending after 22 years of service in the organization. Officials say the move is meant to give the new director room to shape his own senior leadership team.

At the ceremony marking the transition between Mossad chiefs, outgoing director David Barnea called for building on Israel’s recent gains against Iran and working to bring down the regime in Tehran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised him, saying: "Dedi, great things were done on your watch."

Israel’s Supreme Court rejected petitions challenging Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman’s appointment as head of the Mossad. The majority of justices found no factual basis to cast doubt on his fitness for the role.

The advisory committee on senior appointments has once again approved Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman’s nomination as head of the Mossad, despite opposition from committee chair Justice Asher Grunis. The Prime Minister’s Office slammed the minority opinion and called for the petitions to be rejected.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he reviewed the affidavit submitted to the High Court by Brig. Gen. G., which supports Roman Gofman’s version of events at the center of the petition. Netanyahu said: "There are no words to describe the injustice done to Gofman."
