Egoz

A small ship carrying Jewish families from Morocco became the scene of one of the most painful immigration tragedies in modern Jewish history.

Capt. Shahar Gamla, a 24-year-old officer in the Egoz commando unit from Natur, died of his wounds after being critically injured in fighting in Lebanon. On Friday, Sgt. Ohad Yaari, 21, of Rehovot, was killed in southern Lebanon.

Egoz and Yahalom commandos swept the Ksebat Ainata neighborhood in the Bint Jbeil area of southern Lebanon, uncovering weapons hidden in a civilian zone and coordinating a rapid, tightly timed strike that destroyed dozens of targets.

Troops from the Maglan and Egoz units in southern Lebanon eliminated armed terrorists who planned to target IDF forces with explosive drones, and destroyed a launcher that was loaded and ready to fire at Israel.
