Yemen-Linked Plot to Target National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir Foiled

Cleared for publication this evening (Monday): the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District Police, together with the Shin Bet, foiled plans for a terror attack and an attempt to harm the National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Police said that over the past month, following information received from the Shin Bet, investigators from the Special Duties Division in the Jerusalem District Central Unit opened an investigation against an approximately 20-year-old resident of East Jerusalem. According to the investigation's findings, the suspect made contact via social media with a figure in Yemen, with whom he exchanged messages of an extremist nature.

The two encouraged each other to carry out terror attacks and to become \"martyrs.\" In addition, their exchanges included statements about carrying out a suicide attack aimed at harming the National Security Minister.The investigation further found that the suspect did not limit himself to these exchanges and also maintained contact with a terror operative in Turkey. In their conversations, they expressed joy and praise for the October 7 massacre.

At the conclusion of the investigative actions and the establishment of an evidentiary basis for offenses of contact with a foreign agent, threatening to commit an act of terror, and conspiracy to commit an act of terror, a prosecutor's declaration was filed in court yesterday by the State Attorney's Office, and the suspect's detention was extended pending the filing of an indictment.
