Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took part last night (Tuesday) in the torch-lighting ceremony at Mount Herzl, wearing a protective bulletproof vest under his jacket. The primary concern was an Iranian attempt to target the prime minister during the event’s live broadcast, which took place before a large audience.

At the ceremony, Netanyahu addressed the fight with Iran and said, "The regime in Iran planned another Holocaust, but we crushed that extermination machine." The prime minister also said that Israel, together with the United States, foiled an Iranian plan to destroy the state.

"If we had not acted with determination and daring, the names of the death sites Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan could have been added to Auschwitz and Majdanek," Netanyahu declared. "We are investing unrelenting effort to hold every person involved in the October 7 massacre to account," he added.
