If it feels like summer vacation will never end, we’re happy to tell you that it actually will. September 1st is almost here, and it’s a great idea to start preparing for this important day.

Start Early

Don’t wait until the last minute to get organized. Check the calendar, mark the date clearly, and remind yourself: the first day of school is closer than you think.

Create a Morning Prep Station

Gather all the toothbrushes, hairbrushes, hair ties, headbands, clips, and other morning essentials into one convenient and accessible drawer or basket.

This is also the perfect time to restock supplies and make sure everything is in good condition and ready to use.

Check School Supplies

Are the school shirts clean, complete, and still in good shape? Buy replacements if needed.

Does every child have:

  • a water bottle?

  • a lunch box?

  • the supplies they need?

Most importantly, are all items labeled with names? Today you can order durable waterproof name labels and stick them on virtually everything.

  • Are textbooks covered?

  • Are the pencils and pens organized in the pencil cases?

  • Are the backpacks packed and ready?

If not, now is the time to organize everything calmly instead of rushing at the last minute.

Practice Earlier Bedtimes

About a week before school starts, begin gradually adjusting bedtime and wake-up time — especially for children who became used to staying up late during summer vacation.

Divide Responsibilities Ahead of Time

Is one of the children starting first grade and needing parental accompaniment?

Plan the logistics in advance:

  • Who drives to preschool?

  • Who walks the first grader to class?

  • Are the older children ready to walk independently?

Clarifying everything beforehand prevents unnecessary stress on the first morning.

Add a Sweet Personal Touch

The night before school starts, sit down and prepare a short loving note for each child.

For younger children, you can add a cute drawing. Don’t forget to include a small chocolate or treat inside the lunchbox for a warm and encouraging start.

Bring Back the Bulletin Board

The first month of school usually comes with endless papers, notices, artwork, and letters from school.

Prepare a cork board or magnetic board where everything can be organized in one place.

Prepare an Emergency Supply Box

Keep a small backup box at home filled with pencils, markers, glue, and other quality school supplies.

It makes homework and projects much easier without constantly unpacking the pencil case.

Most Important of All: Prayer

Talk with your children about their hopes, dreams, and goals for the coming school year.

Try creating a short personal prayer together that includes their wishes, aspirations, and hopes for success, friendship, growth, and happiness.
