The political crisis surrounding British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is deepening after a series of reports in the British media claimed that he is considering ending his term in the near future. According to a report published overnight (Shabbat) in the "Daily Mail," Starmer told close associates that he intends to resign as prime minister and has already put together an orderly timetable for his departure. According to that same report, the British prime minister plans to carry out the move in a controlled and carefully planned way, with the message being that the resignation will take place "on his terms."

According to the report, Starmer hopes to complete the move within the next month, by June 18, although as of now no official statement has been issued on his behalf confirming the reports. In the background, the political pressure around him continues to grow, both from within his government and from within the Labour Party itself.

Last week, members of Starmer’s government arrived at 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British prime minister, in what appeared to be an attempt to discuss the political developments and the worsening crisis with him. At the same time, Britain’s "Telegraph" reported that six ministers are expected to call on him to step down.

The crisis took concrete form with a wave of resignations from within the government. Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh was the first to announce her departure, and in a post she published on X she called on Starmer to set an orderly framework for transferring the leadership of the Labour Party. A short time later, Jess Phillips, a junior minister in the Defense Ministry, also announced her resignation while directing direct criticism at the current leadership. Britain’s health secretary also resigned from his position, saying he had "lost confidence in the leadership" and implicitly calling for primaries to be opened for the party leadership.

According to the reports, more than 90 Labour Party members of Parliament have called in recent days for Starmer to leave his post. Adding to that was a large right-wing demonstration held against him yesterday.
