(Credit: shutterstock)U.S. Central Command announced today (Monday) that over the weekend, between Shabbat and Sunday, Iranian air defense systems, a ground control unit, and two suicide drones were struck. According to the American statement, the move was carried out in response to Iran’s downing of an American MQ1 drone in international waters.
Following the American strikes, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched missiles toward a U.S. base in Kuwait. According to the reports, attempts were made during the incident to intercept the missiles fired at the base.
Later, the Revolutionary Guards released an official statement. They claimed the American attack targeted a communications facility on Sirik Island in Hormozgan Province, and that they subsequently decided to respond militarily.
The statement also claimed that "all targets defined for the operation were "destroyed."" The Revolutionary Guards added that, from their perspective, this was "a direct response to the American move."
Later in the statement, Tehran warned against continued American strikes and said that "any further attack by the United States will be met with a harsher response." Iranian officials also claimed that responsibility for the current escalation lies with the United States, which they said initiated the military move that led to the exchange of fire between the sides.
