With that, the last barrier preventing Israeli civilians from entering and remaining in areas evacuated under the Disengagement Plan has now been removed.
The move marks another step in undoing the effects of the Disengagement in the area, following the repeal in recent years of the Disengagement Law in northern Samaria and government decisions aimed at advancing the renewal of settlement there.
Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, who has been among the leading figures in the struggle to reverse the Disengagement and was himself expelled in the past from the community of Sa-Nur, welcomed the decision: "This is a historic day. The final burial of the Disengagement. After years of public, settlement, and diplomatic struggle, we are closing another painful chapter and correcting a historic injustice done to the State of Israel, to the settlement enterprise, and to the people of Israel as a whole."
Dagan added: "The Disengagement did not bring peace or security. It brought terror, pain, and severe harm to the Land of Israel and to our national resilience. Today we continue on the path of repair. On the way to the 'Reconnection Plan,' which will bring 20 times more Israeli civilians to northern Samaria. The people of Israel understand the mistake and are correcting it step by step."
Later in his remarks, he addressed the future of settlement in the area: "Our mission is clear: to build, develop, and help northern Samaria flourish again. Not only to return to what once was, but to grow far beyond that. With Hashem's help, there will be 20 times more Jews here, thriving communities, agriculture, industry, tourism, and life. That is the real victory."
At the end of his remarks, Dagan thanked Defense Minister ישראל כ"ץ, Finance Minister בצלאל סמוטריץ', the head of Central Command, the אנשי "חומש תחילה", the evacuees of Homesh and Sa-Nur, Yeshivat Homesh, and everyone who, in his words, worked over the years to advance the reversal of the Disengagement. He concluded: "Now we are setting things right. The Disengagement is dead. The people of Israel live!".
